Cross-compatibility between OutlineEdit 2 and 3
Both OutlineEdit 2 and OutlineEdit 3 create documents in the .oe2doc file format. All features of OutlineEdit 2 are fully supported in OutlineEdit 3, therefore all files created with OutlineEdit versions 2.x can be viewed and edited in version 3.
When opening OutlineEdit 3 files in OutlineEdit 2, there are a number of aspects to keep in mind. Files created with OutlineEdit 3 can include the following features, that are not or only partially supported in OutlineEdit 2:
- Inline images
- Up to 10 color-coded categories
When opening OutlineEdit 3 files in OutlineEdit 2, the following behaviour is expected:
- Inline images will not be visible
- Category colors for up to 10 categories will be displayed, but can not be edited
When editing and saving files using the new features from OutlineEdit 3 in OutlineEdit 2, keep in mind:
- Images will be removed
- There might be unexpected behaviour with regards to categories
Always verify that no data is missing, when and after you need to view or modify OutlineEdit 3 files in OutlineEdit 2.
